Dr. Shelia Meabon Brooks DNP, MSN-Ed, RN

UA Little Rock School of Nursing

Clinical Assistant Professor of Nursing

DAY AT WORK

Summer:  All hands on deck! Our awesome summer faculty interacting and teaching over 300 new nursing students the fundamentals of nursing and evidence-based practice nursing. The fall and spring semesters are a bit calmer.

BEGINNING INTERESTS

I’ve always wanted to be a teacher and assist people during their most vulnerable times to show that God is real and that he cares. A nurse fits both desires.

CAREER EVOLUTION

I began my nursing career as a nursing assistant at Rebsamen Hospital in Jacksonville, Arkansas and UAMS. I have worked as an LPN and as an RN at Doctors Hospital and UAMS as a med/surg and an orthopedic unit nurse, an asst. director of nursing and on to director of nursing of a 112 bed skilled nursing facility. I have also served as nurse liaison at UAMS Department of Geriatrics. I continue to enjoy my nursing jouRNey at UA Little Rock School of Nursing.

LOVE THE WORK

Being an instrumental part of assisting with teaching the foundation of nursing by stressing the importance of getting back to the basics of compassion, active listening, dignity and respect to ALL patients regardless of race, age, size or gender as well as witnessing students get that ”ah ha” moment. To witness the growth and confidence in a student is absolutely refreshing and rewarding.
