As Junior League of Little Rock celebrates more than a century of service, the commitment to building a better community remains steadfast. The organization’s rich history of improving the lives of women and children is irrefutable and made possible, in large part, by proceeds from Holiday House. Publicity Chairman Caroline Honea elaborates, “Holiday House is a fun weekend of shopping. However, what makes it so special is that the money goes back into the community through the ways our members serve.” This revenue supports JLLR community projects with an emphasis on school preparedness and wellness. Each initiative benefits an underserved demographic with a finite purpose + measurable results. Again, this year, shoppers have an opportunity to join the legacy.
JUNIOR LEAGUE OF LITTLE ROCK COMMUNITY PROJECTS
KOTA CAMP is a unique opportunity for children with disabilities and their siblings and friends. In partnership with Camp Aldersgate, this inclusive experience transforms lives and serves 140+ campers annually.
LITTLE ROCK READERS promotes literacy and improves reading skills across seven Little Rock School District schools through the third grade, which is a milestone for students. In partnership with the Arkansas Literary Festival and other organizations – thousands of books have been distributed to children in Central Arkansas.
NIGHTINGALES provides volunteers who plan activities and meals for families at Arkansas Children’s Hospital and Home for Healing. Hundreds of individuals experiencing the trauma of hospitalization enjoy this camaraderie and fellowship.
STUFF THE BUS provides essential school supplies to five Little Rock School District schools. Encouraging learning + building self-esteem. Each year, nearly 3,000 students receive backpacks that are assembled and distributed by JLLR.
These community projects align with the values and vision of the organization. “Junior League of Little Rock has always addressed pressing local needs such as education, health and economic development – all while empowering women to become leaders and change agents.” Through a membership that is 750+ women strong – JLLR not only cultivates effective civic leaders in the Capital City, these women also act as ardent advocates for the welfare of all Arkansans. Caroline notes there are a few surprises and special events that are guaranteed to delight guests and adds, “Junior League has been a driving force that makes our community a healthier, more vital place to live. We are looking forward to seeing everyone at Holiday House.”
