Ride to the Rescue

Inspired by the Triple Crown of Thoroughbred Horseracing, Southern Silks Stakes celebrates tradition and hospitality with a fundamental purpose: improving the lives of children in Arkansas. For more than a century, Methodist Family Health has worked tirelessly to offer resources for the state’s most vulnerable residents. Chairmen Kate and Joey Price will welcome guests to an evening of festive fare and fabulous faux horse races that generates support for the services that Methodist Family Health provides.

Kate, operations manager at Indigo Little Rock, and Joey, managing partner at Quattlbaum, Grooms & Tull PLLC, were initially introduced to Methodist Family Health through friends who invited them to join the Southern Silks Stakes Committee. They immediately recognized the value that the organization brings to countless Arkansas families. Kate elaborates, “Methodist Family Health Foundation provides peace, stability and hope to Arkansas children and families. They help with immediate needs and the everyday needs that we can all take for granted.”

As Methodist Family Health remains steadfast to improving the welfare of fellow Arkansans, the continuum of services continues to evolve. The organization helps families and children struggling with behavioral, emotional and psychiatric health issues. These resources are provided at residential treatment centers and counseling clinics throughout the state as well as the Arkansas Center for Addictions Research, Education and Services (Arkansas Cares). Additionally, Kaleidoscope Grief Center promotes healing + recovery through innovative educational, therapeutic and recreational activities.

Proceeds from Southern Silks Stakes support these resources for the state’s most vulnerable residents. While the competition is always fierce among horseracing enthusiasts, Kate insists the purpose is finite. “It’s a fundraising event to help kids win the race to a brighter future.” Sponsored by Simmons Bank, this year’s special appeal will help Methodist Family Health clients achieve therapeutic goals. “It’s a $12,500 challenge for event donors to contribute to the Foundation’s Compassion Fund which provides activity and exercise classes, clothing, footwear, musical instruments, sensory toys and weighted blankets.” For Kate, philanthropy is all about a personal connection through shared experience and community. “I believe we are all in this world together and whatever we can do to help leave this world better than how you found it is what we should strive to do.”
