Photo Exhibit The Waiting Room: Lives on Pause Opens July 20 in Little Rock, Honoring Shelter Dogs in Moments of Hope and Heartbreak
LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (June 30, 2025) — A powerful new photo exhibit, The Waiting Room: Lives on Pause, will open Saturday, July 20 at The Reading Room in Pettaway, part of Paper Hearts Bookstore. The exhibit is a visual storytelling journey through the eyes of shelter dogs, capturing raw moments of hope and heartbreak that defines life inside the shelter system.
Created by Central Arkansas shelter volunteer and content creator Susan Taylor, the exhibit is both a love letter to the dogs still waiting for homes and a tribute to those who now wait for us at the Rainbow Bridge. Taylor’s storytelling work recently reached national attention when video content she created led to a life-saving collaboration with The Dodo, freeing Hashbrown, a pit bull who spent over 700 days at Sherwood Humane Animal Services.
This one-day-only event aims to raise awareness about Arkansas’ ongoing animal overpopulation crisis and the urgent need for community action.
“We can’t rescue our way out of this crisis,” Taylor said. “But we can show up, speak out, and change one dog’s life at a time.”
In addition to the exhibit, there will be a silent auction featuring goods and experiences donated by local businesses and rescue advocates. 100% of all proceeds from donation-based ticket sales, auction bids, and additional contributions will benefit Benton Animal Services, a shelter deeply impacted by overcrowding. Adoptable dogs from Benton Animal Services will also be on-site for attendees to meet.
