VIRGINIA STUART COBB
“Stuart knows personally what it means to need cutting-edge health care right here in Arkansas,” says UAMS Vice Chancellor Winthrop P. Rockefeller Cancer Institute Director Michael J. Birrer, M.D., Ph.D. “As a breast cancer and myeloma survivor, she is a staunch advocate for the Institute. Her gift helps ensure more Arkansans have access to the most advanced mammography and other cancer-related procedures.” Arkansas Children’s Executive Vice President & Chief Development Officer Fred Scarborough shares, “Stuart has been an extraordinary partner to Arkansas Children’s for decades, and her commitment to children is unparalleled. Arkansas Children’s, along with others in the community, has greatly benefitted from her philanthropic spirit.” Additional support includes Home for Healing, Junior League of Little Rock and Arkansas Museum of Fine Arts.
Stuart Cobb experienced the compassionate care of UAMS as well as Arkansas Children’s Hospital, while her daughter was being treated. Stuart serves on the Arkansas Children’s Foundation Board of Directors and is a lifetime member of the Arkansas Children’s Hospital Auxiliary; she contributed to the Arkansas Children’s Campaign for a Healthier Tomorrow, which ultimately generated $274 million to advance child health in Arkansas. It is this consideration to the welfare of all Arkansans that provides a beacon of hope during a journey back to wellness.
The impressive campus of UAMS is situated in the heart of the Capital City and is an inspiring landmark along the West Markham corridor. For many families, it is the small structure across the street that also makes a big difference. Home for Healing provides convenient, affordable accommodations in a peaceful and restorative environment while patients receive treatment at nearby medical centers. Executive Director Kristen Trulock elaborates, “While her financial support has been substantial and instrumental in our operations, it is her genuine passion for our mission that truly sets her apart. One particularly remarkable instance of her generosity occurred when she learned Home for Healing needed assistance, and without hesitation, she paid off our mortgage. This act of kindness not only relieved us of a significant financial burden but also enabled us to redirect our focus and resources towards providing vital support to cancer patients, NICU and ICU families and their needs.”
As an avid supporter of the arts, Stuart contributed to the Arkansas Museum of Fine Arts Capital Campaign as a leadership donor. Through her gifts of time and resources, Stuart continues to transform lives. “We would not be where we are if it were not for the thoughtful and selfless dedication Stuart has given to the Winthrop P. Rockefeller Institute and UAMS,” concurs Dr. Birrer.
