There is nothing better than home cookin’ – no matter the home. Madere Toure and Pap Dior know this; it’s one of the guiding principles for Afrobites, a North African culinary experience with a flagship food truck in Little Rock and another location in Conway.

“Whatever is given to you, you have to share,” is another principle for business and life. With this African proverb in their hearts, Afrobites serves authentic dishes from their homeland including Piri Piri chicken, jackfruit and jerk fish. These fundamental beliefs make this dynamic duo a perfect partner to Arkansas Advocates for Children & Families. Sharing resources is the foundation of both and will be on delicious display at Soup Sunday next month. Madere and Pap are the featured chefs for this Arkansas Advocates for Children & Families FUNdraiser. Chairmen Kevin Shalin, aka The Mighty Rib, and Dr. Gene Lu will welcome guests to the Venue at Westwind for the afternoon’s festivities.

Considered one of The Natural State’s eminent food bloggers, Kevin recognizes Afrobites as more than just fantastic food. “I’ve worked with them on numerous occasions and can tell you they are some of the most community-minded individuals in the industry; their food is amazing. Being able to offer attendees an authentic African soup truly helps showcase the diversity in food at Soup Sunday.” Madere and Pap plan to serve harira – a soup from Morocco, Algeria and other North African regions – which features lentils and vermicelli from vegetables. An additional offering will be a surprise to soup sippers!

Afrobites participation in this family-friendly event was inevitable. “When we learned Arkansas Advocates for Children & Families is all about ensuring children and families have the resources to live a healthy life, we decided we would happily join with them,” Madere admits. Madere and Pap met as students at the University of Central Arkansas. They missed home-cooking and asked family members for recipes. “Throughout the years, we realized we were getting great feedback from the dishes we cooked, and from there we thought, ‘Why not come out and utilize this? Make a profitable business and give back to this beautiful community of Arkansas,”’ Pap adds.

Food truck FUN and building a brighter community are part of what makes Afrobites special. It also aligns with what most people consider a guaranteed Sunday Funday.  Arkansas Advocates for Children’ & Families Development Director Fran Carter notes in addition to all the samplings – a curated auction will delight shoppers and live entertainment throughout the afternoon. “You can ask anyone – Soup Sunday is one of the most fun events in Central Arkansas. The atmosphere is ‘souper’ casual and family-friendly; the food is always delicious and the cause is most important: the future of Arkansas kids.”
