Exquisite Creatures at Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art, available through July 29, showcases the magnificent diplays of Christopher Marley. He is an artist, naturalist, photographer and author who uses preserved specimens as an expression of love + devotion for nature’s majesty. It’s important to note, with respect to all living creatures – the organisms are part of broader reclamation project, collected after dying of natural or incidental causes; and are obtained through a large network of people and institutions that share his passion for nature.
Christopher recalls natural surroundings in the Pacific Northwest as his earliest memories. During a decade spent travel as a fashion model, this passion for discovering unfamiliar elements became an obsession. His attention to detail is remarkable and these awe-evoking collections bring a reverence to the transformative < and sometime unexpected > power of art.
