The North Little Rock Public Library System (NLRPLS) is excited to launch its Family Book Club, beginning on June 27, 2024, at 5 PM at the William F. Laman Public Library (2801 Orange Street, North Little Rock). This event aims to make reading a delightful family affair!
Families are invited to join us for a “launch” event where they will receive ideas and resources to enhance their reading experience, making it enjoyable for all ages. Attendees will also have the special opportunity to meet Darcy Pattison, author of the featured book Kell, the Alien, illustrated by Rich Davis.
Unlike traditional book clubs that convene after reading, our Family Book Club meets before reading to provide families with engaging activities they can do together throughout the book. This innovative approach fosters a love for reading at home by involving the entire family in a shared literary adventure.
Event Highlights:
Meet the Author: Darcy Pattison will be present to kick off the event and engage with families.
Borrow Kell, the Alien: There are 10 copies available for checkout, one per family, which can be accessed at William F. Laman Public Library or on Libby using your NLRPLS library card.
Family Book Club Guide: A guide filled with fun activities and discussion prompts will be provided to enrich the reading experience.
Snacks and Prizes: Enjoy delicious snacks and a chance to win a fun family prize!
“The main focus is to provide families with resources to enjoy a book together and to promote reading at home,” said Jill Wheeler, Youth Services Manager at Laman Kids. “We believe that reading can be a wonderful, shared experience that brings families closer and instills a lifelong love of books in children.”
To further enhance the Family Book Club experience, we invite you to our Follow-Up Fun event on July 22 at 4 PM, featuring Rich Davis, the illustrator of Kell, the Alien. This event offers a unique opportunity to meet the illustrator and explore the art of illustration with a hands-on drawing lesson and more. Reading the Family Book Club book is not required, but it may enhance the experience.
Join us on June 27 and July 22 for afternoons of fun, learning, and family bonding. These event are free and open to the public, but space is limited.
