Structures that Transformed Education – 1724 to 1974 Exhibition by Mark Witting

May 21 - July 31
The William F. Laman Public Library Gallery proudly presents “Structures that Transformed Education – 1724 to 1974” by artist Mark Wittig. Through captivating photography, Wittig chronicles the historic journey of school properties pivotal in the fight against segregation in education.

Using a 4×5 large-format view camera and traditional darkroom techniques, Wittig immerses viewers in tangible representations of key sites in educational reform. This exhibition sheds light on overlooked locations across the United States, showcasing their significance in shaping a nondiscriminatory educational landscape.

Wittig’s work, inspired by personal experiences and a passion for education, challenges societal norms through photography, installations, and sculptures. Supported by grants from Mid-America Arts Alliance, the National Endowment for the Arts, the Windgate Foundation, and the Arkansas Arts Council, Wittig’s contributions have garnered national recognition.

The exhibition is open to the public until July 31 at the William F. Laman Public Library Gallery, located at 2801 Orange Street, North Little Rock, AR 72114. Gallery hours are Monday through Thursday, 9 AM to 7 PM, and Friday through Saturday, 9 AM to 1 PM.
