Each year, the Hunger Action Breakfast celebrates the work of individuals and partner organizations to eliminate food insecurity and create lasting change for all Arkansans. Cori Keller and Eddie Davis will welcome civic leaders to a morning that recognizes Hunger Action Month and the important mission fulfillment work of the Arkansas Hunger Relief Alliance. Proceeds support SNAP and WIC outreach, nutrition education, school meal expansion, and local food initiatives.
As a young adult, Cori remembers volunteering with the local food pantry. “Even in a place so rooted in agriculture, I saw hunger firsthand. When I was a student at Stuttgart High School, nearly 75 percent of students qualified for free or reduced lunch. That stayed with me.” In the Capital City she continued with a passionate pursuit before the Senate Education Committee in support of SB 477, which established free school meals for eligible students. At the Arkansas Hunger Relief Alliance, Cori serves on the AHRA Board of Directors and reflects on her time with the organization. “It’s been incredibly rewarding to see advocacy turn into action that directly impacts children and families across the state. I am proud to help drive change, especially for communities like mine.”
Eddie was introduced to the Arkansas Hunger Relief Alliance through Serving Up Solutions, the organization’s annual dinner, and was impressed. He felt a strong desire to become more involved and serves on the AHRA Board of Directors. As a healthcare professional with Common Spirit Health, Eddie understands that combating hunger goes beyond providing food; it’s about empowering Arkansans to live healthier lives. “My aim is to set an example by participating in anti-hunger initiatives, championing policy reforms and educating my personal network to inspire their involvement in this crucial fight.”
Cori and Eddie realize these challenges impact every segment of society; we can make a difference in its eradication. They encourage fellow Arkansans to become informed and engaged. Arkansas leads the nation in food insecurity – nearly 20% of households struggle with financial constraints, rural isolation, accessibility or all these issues. The Hunger Action Breakfast provides an opportunity to not only learn more but also cultivate meaningful coalitions. Measurable results include increased school meal access, policy advancements and sustained public + private support. Director of Development Jennifer Owens Buie elaborates, “The Hunger Action Breakfast is more than just a morning event – it’s a moment of unity, urgency, and hope. It brings together advocates, partners, and community leaders from across the state. Together we can recognize the challenges our neighbors face and honor those who are working hard to change that reality. Every conversation, every dollar raised, and every story shared at the breakfast helps move us closer to ending hunger in our state.” Attendees will leave this event inspired to join the cause.
