The lore of circus life is one of magic and wonder, where freedom and diversity are celebrated. There is an undeniable sense of belonging and community among the performers + artists, with unbreakable bonds through shared experiences. Montica Hollaway notes how the clients of Arkansas Enterprises for the Developmentally Disabled embark on a similar journey of self-discovery in preparation for Curtain Call. “It gives them a platform to shine. It’s a time when their talents, personalities and confidence are on full display.” As Curtain Call Silent Auction Chairman, Montica looks forward to welcoming friends of AEDD to a fresh new venue: The Sanctuary at Argenta.

Each spring, Curtain Call takes the stage showcasing the AEDD drama troupe as a highlight of the evening’s festivities. This year’s circus theme is guaranteed to dazzle + delight. AEDD Director of Development Kerina Goucher elaborates, “Our AEDD clients love performing and help decide the direction of the annual performance. The production will be playful, entertaining and lots of fun!” With soaring ceilings, stunning stained glass and an abundance of architectural details – The Sanctuary at Argenta creates an ideal atmosphere. Montica is excited about the new venue. “It’s a unique opportunity to create an elevated experience while continuing the tradition that means so much to the organization.”

Proceeds traditionally support the Jobs 4 You initiative – providing employment opportunities, job coaching and skills training for adults with developmental disabilities. Montica shares, “This program plays a vital role in fostering independence and opportunity. It’s more than employment; it’s about dignity, independence and creating a path forward.”  Many AEDD clients work at the organization’s Lacey Landers Center in Southwest Little Rock and across Central Arkansas including The Sanctuary at Argenta.  The Sanctuary at Argenta Owner Hayden Finley shares insight, “We hired Deontae as part of our team, and he has been an instrumental part of event setup for weddings, parties and other events held at The Sanctuary. His personality and smile are infectious, and we are thankful to have partnered with AEDD and support their mission to help others gain inclusivity.  Montica adds, “These kinds of opportunities create a community where individuals are seen, valued and actively engaged.”

Montica notes it was only a matter of time for her to find AEDD. “I was already connected to the organization through my North Little Rock roots. What started as a professional introduction has grown into a personal commitment through community, relationships and a shared passion for the mission.” She considers civic leadership a priority and learned the value of volunteering through neighborhood clean-up projects in North Little Rock. “It was a simple experience that taught me the importance of showing up, working together and making a difference.” After experiencing a ruptured brain aneurysm five years ago, Montica’s perspective shifted. “That season taught me not to take time for granted. I try to approach each day with gratitude and intention, prioritizing the people who matter, doing what brings me joy and giving back whenever possible.”
