CTEH

Toxicologist

DAY AT WORK

One day might consist of reviewing literature to answer a scientific question in support of a litigation case. The next day might consist of traveling to a chemical emergency response, developing an air monitoring strategy, and communicating with regulatory agencies or community members.

BEGINNING INTERESTS

I learned about the field of scientific consulting and discovered CTEH during graduate school. This career was attractive because of the variety of projects that CTEH supports and the ability to see how the work helps people in real time. Helping people solve complex problems and answer important questions is exciting, mentally stimulating, and rewarding – a scientist’s dream!

LOVE the Work

I love the variety of projects and people I work with in my job. Each person contributes unique experiences and perspectives and, together, we apply science to real-world problems and questions.

SURPRISING BUT TRUE

It is surprising how many different paths and opportunities exist in STEAM fields. There is truly a perfect fit for each person’s unique interests, qualities, and skills. The opportunities for women in STEAM are limitless, so keep an open mind and see where your passion for STEAM takes you!

ADVICE

Seek opportunities to learn and grow through summer programs, shadowing experiences, and internships. Diversify your knowledge and skills. Accept challenges and stay persistent, even if you are afraid to fail. And importantly, celebrate yourself and the milestones you achieve along the way.
