DAY AT WORK

It sounds cliché, but truly no day is typical. My workday consists of site design work, internal and external project coordination meetings, marketing and business development, and/or back-end bookkeeping. I don’t do all of these things every single day, but most days are a combination of these tasks.

BEGINNING INTERESTS

I initially majored in engineering in college only because I had a high school teacher tell me I would be good at it. I had no clue what an engineer even did or how many different avenues of engineering there were until I got to college. It became clear that Land Development was the division of Civil Engineering that would be the right fit for me because every project is unique, so it challenges my knowledge while fostering creativity.

CAREER EVOLUTION

I took a job right out of college in the same field and immediately found a mentor, Mark Rickett, who has evolved into my business partner. We started Rickett Moriconi Engineering together as a small engineering consulting firm, which has allowed me to use my skills as an engineer, but also expanded my abilities to handle everything that comes along with owning a business.

LOVE THE WORK

I love the continual education each project brings. I can learn something new each time I work on a project, allowing me to grow as a better engineer. Knowledge is power, so I’m always pursuing ways to further my skills.

SURPRISING BUT TRUE

You often need to leverage your creativity to solve problems, so you get the logical aspect of the job as well as the artistic. Collaboration and communication are also extremely important to curate innovative solutions while learning from other professionals.

 ADVICE

Be your own biggest supporter. It’s important to surround yourself with people who encourage you and lift you up, but believing in yourself and being confident in your abilities will make you unstoppable.
